hands of grace

Tonight as I once again sat on the floor holding my resident's swollen and deformed feet in my hands she was the one who ministered to me.

She and I have enjoyed our dressing change experiences as we have gotten to know each other and watch her legs transform before our very eyes. Tonight as I scrubbed and cleansed her feet she struggled for words....

I jokingly said, "I bet this isn't the pedicure you were expecting!"

She said, "I feel so, so, so blessed. You have hands of grace."

Those words were like a stamp of approval from God. He is pleased. There is no greater honor.

John 17:4-5, 12-14-17
"4) so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5) After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him....12) When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. 13) "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14) Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. 15) I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16) Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17) Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. " (NIV 2010 version from YouVision.com)

I believe this is why God was pleased with you this evening my friend. What a blessing you were to that elderly woman. Many elderly people go for weeks and even months without any one touching them by giving a hug, or shake their hand, or hold their hand. The nurse or CNA can often be the only tactile form of human contact they receive. I have no doubt that this lady as well as others can readily tell the difference between a nurse who is simply doing their job and one who truly ministers from the heart. It makes perfect sense to me that the difference is in the touch of their hands. I post this comment because I think there is a life lesson here that was first taught by Christ so many centuries/ millenniums ago which we would all do well to remember. One never knows for sure what kind act of service to another will bring such ministry and we need to remember in this fast paced society we are called to take the time to to lovingly demonstrate Christ's love in the small things we do every day. It means so much for the kingdom work to be done. You will be blessed as Christ promised for what you did today my friend.
